Pultec 1977 Full-Line Catalog

Download the complete twelve-page 1977 Pultec outboard audio equipment catalog:

DOWNLOAD: Pultec-1977_catalog

Units covered, with text, specs, and photos, include: Pultec EQH-2, EQP-1A3, and MEQ-5 equalizers; Pultec HLF-3c and HLF-26 filters; Pultec SP3 and MH4 mixers.

Until I saw this catalog I had not realized that the original Pultec production run had extended into 1977.  These are the solid-state Pultecs, not the more coveted vacuum tube units that trade in the $5000 range, but AFAIK the actual equalization stages are the same as in the earlier tube units.  I have never scratch-built a Pultec clone, largely because the idea of hand-building the multi-tapped inductors always seemed a little daunting to me.   I recently found myself in possession of a large batch of various MiniDuctors, though, and I am wondering if these can be put service in a Pultec-type circuit.  The mH values are very close to those in the putlec schematics, but I cannot find any reference online to anyone building a Pultec using MiniDuctors rather than a large coil-wound inductor.  Anyone have any idea about this?

  • Hey yes the single mini inductors work well.
I use them and have them in my home made units.

It is only wire wrapped around a ferrite core..... (flame time:-)

Many inductor based units from time ago used discrete inductors.
The multi-tap is probably due to custom values and labor / costs etc.. It is much quick and easier to use a single unit rather than a dozen different inductors.

With-out the inductors in the classic EQP it will act as a shelf-eq .
Experiment, the whole passive circuit can be built point to point on the pots alone!

  • Oh yeah, don't worry about the output amp . Just turn the volume up on your mixer or build a modern solid state amp around a TL071 etc..
Passive works just fine , just a little quiet.
    :-)

  • tyco makes nice little inductors , many people are using them now due to the price of the multi-tapped ones. They work perfectly.

  • G'day Chris.
Any idea what serial numbers we saw a change from tube to solid state circuits on the 1A3 program EQ unit?

  • Hi Evan, no, I have no idea, I don't own any pultecs myself so i've never looked into it.
