Hi Chris,
I've purchased a Magnecord PT6-J three-head reel-to-reel, along with its matching amplifier, the PT63-J amp. I'm currently working on refurbishing both pieces. Although I managed to find the schematic for the PT6-JA—which was made for an earlier two-head model—I haven't yet located the schematic for the PT63-JA. I've thoroughly searched online but haven't been successful so far.
I noticed that your group might be able to help with Magnecord questions, and possibly connect me with David Boyer, the son of John Boyer, one of Magnecord's founding partners, through your site. I also reached out by email to the Museum of Magnetic Sound Recording to see if they might have the schematic.

OK...I've figured out how to post! It only accepts "http://xxx.com" as a URL! NOW...on to my question!...
I have a question re: Mercury Living Presence recordings...
In a 2021 interview, Tom Fine mentioned that the Mercury L.P. classical catalog would be released in hi-res to streaming platforms such as Qobuz. I've checked Qobuz, and found very few Mercury recordings, almost all of them in standard 44.1 CD format. Tom...was this project ever done? Are there other streaming sites that DO have the MLP catalog in hi-res? Thank you!

Hi I am trying to find a template or clear front on photo of a Johnson Celestion Amplifier control panel for the head version. I would like to restore the control face to original as some previous owner painted over it and destroyed the original volume / tone and all the control markings. Can anyone help ??? all the on-line photos are unclear or on an angle making it difficult to have a reproduction made... Love the amp and everyone I know is amazed by the arborite circuit board ...... Thanks Tim

In reply to <a href="https://www.preservationsound.com/about/#comment-3295">chris</a>.

The only electricity used in recording sound until circa 1924 was that required to power the studio lights and drive the mandrel/turntable under the (completely mechanical) record head. Often however either a spring or weight driven apparatus was used instead of an electrically driven motor so, lighting aside, the entire process was non-electronic.
I know of some cylinder dictation machine that recorded and played back 100% acoustically still being used in the early 1960s.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wheatstone-SP-8-Stereo-Production-Console-TV-Broadcast-On-Air-Mixer-/251813149317?nma=true&si=NK%252FZgTRVDKPvN4xsExwTgphzYXI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I wish I had seen this Wheatstone SP-8 sooner. Several months after the ebay listing above had closed, I stumbled upon it while looking for a TV-600 manual. I contacted the seller right away (an e-recycling center), and he informed me that the console was destroyed. The 24 mono/stereo modules in the console and a box of extra modules were used for scrap metal. He had also found the power supply, which was also destroyed. That type of shit makes me very sad. I guess it's true - you snooze, you lose. In this case, everybody loses. RIP beautiful analog console...
