His name was Steve Bellinger (I think). I toured the station when we were looking for an automation system for overnights on our AM station. It was impressive to see, and actually sounded very good. But we opted not to go that route.

I have one that still works great! Super-fast rewind and accurate meter due to the opto-electronic capstan, first of its kind apparently. I had a coffeehouse back in the 90's with live music performances a few nights per week and often recorded with it direct via a line out from mixer. Several artists transferred these recordings to digital and released the performances on CDs and said the sound quality was so good that there was very little post-production required.

The chip in these units allowed daisy chaining up to 16 of these together to be controlled with a computer. Eumig was going after the radio/tv markets but went bankrupt in 1982 and sold everything to other companies. These units were priced at $1550 in 1980 dollars, approx $4500 today. If you open one up and look inside, you can see why as they used all top-notch components, caps, connectors, etc.
