The "A" designation does indeed make it a 5 pin.
The "B" designation are all 3 pin XLR.
682 is an omni mic, as is it's sometimes wired in precursor, the 681
The 683, 685 & 689 are all cardioid dynamics with different specs and responses- my preference are 683 & a 689A I recently acquired (again)
which sounds very nice and not as "Boxy" as the first 689 I had years ago.
The 684 & 688 are all wide frequency response omni mics,
the ones I had in the past were used for live room miking or drum overheads with good success
The cases are mostly finished in dark green/black, though some are occasionally a brown umber finish or entirely chrome.

These are all great unheralded microphones, thanks for making this post about them.

I own a Fostex B-16DM three head version, found it in Brazil! It comes with a extra unit called Fostex 8091 audio tape monitor, Its like another bottom audio part, fully equipped with more 16 audio cards to read the extra repro-head. But the unit I found does not have all the cables do connect to the machine, neither the controllers to switch the audio output to sync/repro/input... , the Fostex 8091 does not have any buttons that make this switching, only a power button.

Hi Chris,
I've purchased a Magnecord PT6-J three-head reel-to-reel, along with its matching amplifier, the PT63-J amp. I'm currently working on refurbishing both pieces. Although I managed to find the schematic for the PT6-JA—which was made for an earlier two-head model—I haven't yet located the schematic for the PT63-JA. I've thoroughly searched online but haven't been successful so far.
I noticed that your group might be able to help with Magnecord questions, and possibly connect me with David Boyer, the son of John Boyer, one of Magnecord's founding partners, through your site. I also reached out by email to the Museum of Magnetic Sound Recording to see if they might have the schematic.
