In September, 1971, I got a call from Andrew Loog Oldham to record at Synchron/Trod Nossel studio in Wallingford. I spent a good part of the Fall in that studio laying down piano tracks. It was my last fling as a young musician just prior to heading to Michigan to attend grad school and becoming a psychologist. It was surreal having Oldham as a producer. At that time Synchron was literally down by the railroad tracks, with a junkyard next door, guarded by German Shepards. When I see photos of the studio, I see the grand piano I played: at times with Oldham sitting on my piano bench with me, sharing ideas. Great and unique memories.

My Band, "The Men of the Sun" recorded an album at Syncron in the early 70's and the studio was top notch. Doc was a great guy and very much into audio quality sound. Bill Lobe (hope I have the last name correct) was great. I had recorded in many New York studios and Syncron was up to par with all of them. Great memories.

As bass player in Detroit Soul who played on “All of my life” recorded at Syncron, we really owe Ed Read for helping us create a sound that has reverberated worldwide. Our record became a fan favorite in the British dance halls in the mid 70’s and today it’s listed among the top 500 all time Northern Soul Hits! If we had proper guidance there’s no telling how far this talented band would’ve gone.
