Google brings me here when looking for info on yesterday's auction buy. Hi Fidelity by PILOT Phonograph console model
PT-1030D with Garrard RC88 / 4 turntable. Plays 16-78 rpm records, tube amplifier and built in speakers, no radio. No chance to play around with it yet but may give it a try with variac and see what happens. Intend to sell it to someone who appreciates vintage PILOT audio gear. Contact me if interested.

My Grandfather had a Pilot Hi-Fi circa 1957 or so. It did not contain a tuner, just a Gerard 4 speed turntable. It was a kind of oblong (deeper than it was wide) mahogany box with gold colored grid covering the speaker and it sat on a tall narrow gold colored metal stand. I enjoyed it for many years after mu Grandfather died.
The sound, I recall had a very "sweet quality" ... not the overbearing base sound that came in with stereos. Wish I had it today, it was particularly well suited to listening to operas and original Broadway Cast albums.
