Michael Gillespie, designer of the Fostex Laboratory Series, got in touch with PS dot com regarding these speakers. Here’s what he had to say:
“I designed these speakers in the late seventies. This was the inaugural Fostex product to launch in North America, setting the stage for huge success. At the time we did this, Fostex had 18 employees in Japan; today they have 67,000 worldwide.”

“Above are images of the “V” series; these were the same systems re-tuned for free-standing (full-space 4π) operation as opposed to the main brochure which shows soffit-mounted (half-space 2π) models.”

Amazing sounding speakers for Rock and Dance Mixes. I passed on a used pair couple years ago. They are now doing the business in my buddy’s studio. Been kicking myself since. But I got their Lab Series power amps. Almost look and sound like Brystons.

Chris, first-person accounts like you got for this are great. Keep up the good work! Those speakers look like they can move some air and produce serious low frequency energy. They seem similar to UREI speakers of the same era.

My Uncle gave me his pair of LS/3 when I was 16Years old….30yrs later I still have them.. have them paired with another good canadian design of the same era. Bryston 4B. My moments of Zen is sitting listening to them
